Director of Equalization (Certified Property Assessor)
Salary: $50,000 - $65,000 Per Year DOE

Information: Hamlin County, South Dakota is currently accepting applications for Hamlin County Director of Equalization which is appointed by the Hamlin County Board of Commissioners.
The function of the Director of Equalization is to annually value all real property with Hamlin County at its full and true value.
The Director of Equalization and the staff within the department are responsible for discovering, listing, and valuing all real property within the county.
They are also responsible for linking real properties to their respective owners and placing assessed values and owners' names on the assessment roles.
Types of properties included in the assessment process are; residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural classes of property.
The Director of Equalization has several additional responsibilities which include providing equalization between classes of property; deciding on adjustments to properties; reviewing all abatements; administering all state laws about the ad valorem property tax assessment; providing for the review and appeal of assessments; testifying in court on assessments; and deciding on tax exemptions and tracking each exemption.
The Director of Equalization is required to have a CAA (Certified Appraiser Assessor) through the Department of Revenue within one year of appointment.
Recertification is required every five years and is accomplished by attending annual school and passing prescribed courses, conferences, and workshops.
Strong computer skills and understanding of legal descriptions, basic math, knowledge of GIS maps, knowledge and ability to operate measuring tools, and office equipment, and prepare reports.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license and be over the age of 18.
Hamlin County employees are paid at the end of each month and once a month.
