POSITION SUMMARY The Mechanical Engineer- Product Development will design, develop, and test sub-systems related to firetrucks.
Mechanical Engineering Product Development team is responsible for turning ideas for products into functional prototypes and eventual production.
The position will support advanced engineering designs, production designs, and issue evaluation and resolution using engineering tools with efficient and affordable processes.
The Mechanical Engineer- Product Development will achieve these goals by working cross functionally with other sub-system engineers, purchasing, production, service, and our sales team.

Designs, builds, and tests new and improved mechanical subsystems for fire trucks.
Balances increasing quality and performance with reduced cost, while meeting customer, internal, and regulatory requirements and specifications.
Understands and applies vehicle regulatory requirements and standards, such as FMVSS, SAE, NFPA, etc.
, to new and existing product designs, ensuring compliance.
Maintains documentation on corporate, customer, and regulatory subsystem specifications, performance requirements, and design guidelines.
Verifies compliance with subsystem requirements and specifications through calculations, testing, data gathering, and data analysis.
Creates and manages detailed component drawings and Bills of Materials for vehicle subsystems, including BOM variants to accommodate various options or customer customizations.
Participates on cross-functional teams to implement product and process improvements.
Acts as a technical resource to other departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Sales & Marketing to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
Maintains contact with suppliers to assist in evaluating new products as well as ensuring parts received meet quality standards.
Communicates with product teams throughout the process of researching, developing, testing, and launching new or improved designs.
Analyzes and problem-solves design, production, and field issues to successful resolution.
Prioritizes and manages multiple assignments and objectives as well as handling unscheduled tasks.
Creates and maintains project and design documentation, with direction from management, including charters, project plans, design reports, and project timelines.
Prepares and presents project status reports.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the company.
QUALIFICATIONS Required Education: Associates degree in Mechanical Drafting, or equivalent related experience.
Preferred Education: Bachelor Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related experience.
Required Experience: Zero to three years related experience.
Preferred Experience: Experience in heavy truck systems and/or automotive systems, or auto repair.
Experience with, or exposure to, welding and sheet metal fabrication processes.
Experience with a custom manufacturing environment.
Design for Manufacturing & Assembly.
CAD design professional or expert.
SolidWorks experience is preferred.
Product data management utilizing CAD and PDM systems.
SolidWorks experience is preferred.
Knowledge of firefighting processes and equipment.

Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Reasoning Ability: Emphasis will be placed on analytical and problem-solving skills.
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills: SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position works in an office environment.
It is a quiet environment that is temperature controlled, ventilated, and well-lit.
Working Conditions will include a desk space where most of the shift will be spent, and it provides open space to work in.
This office space is routinely cleaned by Rosenbauer Cleaning Services.
It has access to all welfare facilities.
This position requires traveling to different departments, test environments and manufacturing environments exposing your to varying working conditions when out of the office.
This can cause exposure to cold or heat depending on the season.
Working conditions may include humidity, wet floors, and loud noises.
Most of the hazards come from machines but following proper procedures minimize risk.
There is also sometimes dust and airborne particles due to the machines being used in all the different shops.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires standing, walking, sitting, and the use of hands.
It can become very loud in certain shops.
Some projects require the use of feet, legs, hands, and fingers for over 60 minutes at a time, while the use of knees, back, shoulders, and arms can reach up to 60 minutes.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception.
This position may require reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds, but this position rarely involves lifting heavy objects.
