Description: Role The purpose of the role of Plant Engineer is to oversee the electrical & mechanical systems of the two (2) manufacturing plants from design, installation, and troubleshooting.
This role will be responsible for assessing current manufacturing equipment and techniques as well as assessing new technologies and processes to increase overall efficiencies, throughput, and reduce and eliminate production issues.
Oversee projects and ensure safety and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities Identify process or cost improvement opportunities targeted towards improving business performance, through reducing waste, improving productivity, reducing downtime, and reducing costs.
Be the Subject Matter Expert in improvement methods and problem solving.
Provide training, mentoring, and leadership to employees on these methods and projects.
Lead and support material flow and replenishment system improvements – Kanban/PFEP/EPEI Champion 5s and Workplace Organization Identifying and prioritizing high impact opportunities targeted towards improving business performance on safety, quality, delivery, and cost by establishing links between process improvement initiatives and business strategies.
Acting as a proactive strategic resource to partner with site management to identify, plan and implement process improvement solutions, guiding site management in the understanding and use of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods.
Training, mentoring, developing, and providing leadership to employees in the application and use of various Lean and Six Sigma tools by acting as a subject matter expert; developing, improving and sustaining productivity improvements using Lean manufacturing tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, Daily Management, SMED, TPM, 3P and Kanban - at the process, cell and value stream levels.
Working with teams on end-to-end process improvement projects and providing expert support while facilitating and tracking team progress of tool usage, change management, root cause identification, and process improvement methodology; ensuring appropriate controls are in place to monitor and maintain results and foster continuous improvement.
Using best practices to identify opportunities for improving employee safety, food safety and product quality.
Work collaboratively with Operations, Supply Chain and Logistics, Administrative Functional Leaders and Executive Staff to identify areas of waste elimination and productivity improvement.
Collaborate with Manufacturing Finance on capital project cost justification and payback (ROI) analysis.
Lead project implementations to completion and validate the savings or ROI.
Conduct engineering time and motion studies to validate and develop process and crewing standards.
Design and test process upgrades and new systems and equipment.
Document standard operating procedures for new processes and equipment and train Supervisors and Team lead and Operators.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to stand, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull.
Lifting requirements are 25lb regularly and up to 50lb occasionally.
Exposure to variation in temperature Working with uncooked, cooked, frozen products.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Expectations Able to manage working in a multi-site diverse environment.
Conflict management Ability to communicate effectively.
Follow detailed instructions.
Critical thinking and decision making Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Proficient in Microsoft office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD Have an understanding of GMP, Food Safety, Food Quality, SQF certification and HACCP as it pertains to daily tasks.
Requirements: Education & Training Requirements Engineering or similar Bachelor’s degree required.
Work Experience Requirements 7+ years’ experience in food manufacturing engineering or CI field USDA experience preferred.
