Title: General Maintenance - Plumber Position Type: Full-Time Department: Facility Services Facility Services supports Augustana’s (AU) mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds.
Facility Services is seeking an experienced plumber with a broad base of knowledge in all aspects of commercial plumbing and maintenance, along with the ability to maintain and repair the buildings owned by the University.
Job Duties: Install and maintain all plumbing equipment, along with sanitary sewer lines, in accordance with local and state codes and requirements.
May obtain building permits and schedule all inspections.
Maintain all tools in good working order.
Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
Wear maintenance uniform shirt for normal activities.
Utilize safety equipment as needed including eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, hazard suits, respirators, safety harnesses, etc.
Available to work overtime, occasional weekends and evenings as required.
Required to be on-call through rotations.
This position works under all weather conditions.
This position may transport up to 65 pounds while ascending/descending stairs; perform overhead work; safely and effectively operate a wide variety of tools, equipment and vehicles.
Perform regular investigations of facilities systems and equipment which involve accessing confined areas, vaults, tunnels, ascending/descending roofs, catwalks, and ladders; and exposure to temperature extremes, noise, heights, energized/pressurized systems, and research-related activities.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Sufficient experience to qualify as journeyman-level knowledge equivalent to four years’ completion of education and work experience, with approximately three years of actual plumbing work experience.
This may include time spent in apprenticeship or vocational training.
Working knowledge of many different systems is essential.
Three years of experience in residential, commercial or municipal plumbing.
Knowledge of hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks.
Willingness to continue education as directed.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, manufacturer instructions/guidelines and interpret technical material.
Good oral and written communications.
Must adhere to AU safety procedures and training.
South Dakota driver’s license and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with interfacing with a Computerized Maintenance Management System Experience balancing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities.
Experience in mechanical plumbing.
Experience working with steam would be a plus.

Department: Ice Technician / General Maintenance Position Type: Full-Time Department: Facility Services The Ice Technician/General Maintenance position has a primary responsibility of maintaining the ice plant within Midco Arena.
Midco Arena is a new state of the art 3,000 seat hockey arena located on Augustana’s campus.
This position’s primary function is to help operate and maintain the new ice arena.
In addition, provide general maintenance and repair for other university buildings across campus.
A broad base knowledge in all aspects of general maintenance and mechanical work is required.
Day time hours with evenings and weekends as required.
General maintenance may require on call scheduling as well.
The duties, competencies, and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Install ice, including but not limited to – preparation and start of ice plant, installation of ice dasher system, preparation and freezing of floor; and building-up the ice sheet.
Prepare ice for all practices, games and other ice events.
Duties include but are not limited to removing debris, checking ice depth, scraping, edging and resurfacing ice.
Operate and maintain the ice-resurfacer and ice-edger.
Must be familiar with techniques for repairing and building ice.
Monitor temperature and humidity levels of the facility.
Assist with general maintenance of the building in between games and ice events.
Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for purchases.
Must have a working knowledge of the ice rink dasher board system and have the ability to make repairs.
Ability to replace glass in a timely and effective manner.
Keeps maintenance and operational logs of plant and ice operations equipment.
Operates and maintains refrigeration plant.
Provide backup for other trades/technicians as needed and as directed by supervisor.
Receive and follow maintenance instructions from supervisor.
Maintain, analyze, and repair plumbing fixtures, doors and locks, windows, cabinets, finishes, and equipment to minimize down time.
Operate other equipment as needed including diesel and gas tractors with backhoe, loader or other attachments, forklift, air hammers, ditch diggers.
Technical Skills: Ability to manage and maintain the ice plant within the new Midco arena.
The ice refrigerant system is an indirect, R-717 common, industrial grade ammonia system.
The secondary refrigerant that runs through the pipes in the ice rink floor is ethylene glycol.
A working knowledge and experience with an HVAC system comprised of roof top, gas fired VAV units.
Must have working experience and knowledge of maintaining commercial roof top desiccant dehumidification units.
Must have knowledge in working with Siemens DDC control systems.
Knowledge and experience of basic plumbing, electrical, appliance repair along with strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude skills to diagnose issues and utilize appropriate resources for corrective action.
Familiarity with how to maintain and repair ice rink dasher board systems, shielding and accessories.
Midco Arena utilizes the Riley Elite Series R6A dasher board system.
In addition, familiarity with ice resurfacing equipment is desired.
Qualifications: Certified Ice Technician and prior ice management experience along with 3 to 5 years of experience in general maintenance preferred.
To perform this job successfully, the individual needs skills including working knowledge and the ability to demonstrate proficiency with ice rink control systems (ice plant, HVAC, DDC controls, etc.
) Knowledge of how to program Siemens DDC HVAC control systems.
Strong problem-solving and mechanical aptitude skills.
Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing and maintenance concepts along with using hand power tools.
Prior experience working with blueprints.
