The Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Process Engineer position is a divisional position not working directly for one particular Daktronics factory.
This position gives employees an opportunity to work with all Daktronics factories, both domestic and foreign.
The responsibility of the divisional SMT engineer is to continue the advancement of SMT processes and technology worldwide.
The SMT engineer will be responsible for researching new equipment, implementing equipment and processes, testing production materials, helping with New Product Introductions (NPI), assisting in our Chip On Board (COB)/Micro LED operation, and documenting standards.
This position is expected to be the company’s expert on SMT processes and have the ability to help direct factory teams resolve quality or process related items.
Responsibilities: Research, test, document, and present on new state of the art processes, materials, and equipment.
Work with SMT machine vendors to maximize machine performance while maintaining quality standards.
Assist with New Product Introduction processes.
Consult with Design Engineering teams to provide innovative solutions to SMT assembly challenges in new and existing designs.
Use analytical and problem-solving capability to maintain, develop and standardize the SMT process.
Apply a scientific approach to process development using data from experiments to drive decisions.
Work with all of our global SMT manufacturing plants to drive continuous improvement in SMT operation focusing on quality, utilization, and throughput metrics.
Develop and update the manufacturing process standards that govern the assembly processes used in the SMT operation.
Develop the knowledge to become the expert on all SMT, COB/Micro/Mini LED processes and equipment.
Hone and adapt communication methods while working with fellow process owners, engineers, operators, and production leadership across multiple countries and cultures.
Coachable person who is eager to grow personally and professionally in technical skills, knowledge, and overall methods of designing robust engineering solutions.
Active member in the Manufacturing Knowledge Center.
Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision, help when and where needed, and communicate effectively with customers and team members.
Must have the ability to complete quality work in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned and needed to meet customer and/or department expectations.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or comparable degree required.
Three or more years’ experience post-degree with Surface Mount Technology (SMT) preferred.
Working knowledge of ASM, DEK, and Koh Young machines is a plus.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Experience within a lean manufacturing environment with demonstrated results and oriented leadership leading to continuous cost, quality, and productivity improvement.
Experience with Microsoft Office software required.
Physical requirements include the ability to: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and/or awkward items.
Read fine print with or without the use of corrective lenses.
Stand or sit for the full shift and have full range of motion (including but not limited to bending and lifting) required to perform the job functions.
Distinguish and identify wire colors.
Work with odors (solder/paint/solvent/manufacturing odors).
Maintain hand/eye coordination.
Reach in all directions and in potentially awkward positions.
Prior work experience which demonstrates working with limited supervision.
Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
Fluent in English, written and verbal.
Ability to travel by air and ground (domestic and foreign).
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Motor vehicle records will be checked.
