Assistant Production Stage Carpenter Washington Pavilion Management, Inc seeks an Assistant Production Stage Carpenter who is responsible for the maintenance, safety, training, application and replacement of technical equipment, rigging and fly rail systems.
This individual will assist in the supervision, scheduling and coordination of house crews.
What you will do! Responsible for assisting in managing the backstage and technical areas of all venues managed by Washington Pavilion Management, Inc.
to include those in the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, Orpheum Theater Center and The South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance.
Occasionally serve as primary technical contact on site for all local and touring presentations to ensure successful engagements.
Assist in coordination and supervision of FT in-house crew, PT stagehands and other technicians; including those not in the direct employment of the facility.
This includes determining priorities of event coordination; hanging of soft goods, electric, sound, supplemental rental equipment and building modification.
Assist in onboarding and training new Technical Staff and Stagehands.
Oversee the regular maintenance and repair of all theater equipment and systems.
Participate in the planning and implementation of new equipment purchases and facility upgrades.
Assist Head Carpenter in billing and settlement.
Protect and keep secure equipment, hard and soft goods, and facility surfaces.
Assisting in supervision of outside technical staff who use Pavilion equipment.
Ensure safe proper use, provide basic training if needed.
Assist in the set up of various front-of-house activities, pre-performance events, receptions and meetings.
Assist in set design and construction for the Dakota Academy of Performing Arts (DAPA) and local theater and dance companies.
Promote continuous training by maintaining a teaching environment for all technical and non-technical departments to continue to grow the staff base.
Other duties as assigned.
What you need - qualifications! Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in related field.
2+ years of proven, direct supervisory experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of stagehand contracts, technical riders, and orchestral drawings.
Basic knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Excellent working knowledge of standard tools and equipment of the trade.
Advanced knowledge of stage carpentry, arena rigging and theatrical rigging.
Basic knowledge of concert and theatrical audio systems, sound design and techniques and lighting equipment including conventional, LED and moving lights, and design techniques a plus.
Basic knowledge of rigging and flymanship.
Ability to coordinate all the components in presenting major theatrical productions.
Must have positive attitude, tolerance of diversity, and a respect for artists and clients.
Must have solid computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and VectorWorks or equivalent.
Physical ability and willingness to work long hours when needed, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Physical ability to move throughout the entirety of the Washington Pavilion Management facilities, stand for long periods of time, climb stairs frequently, bend, reach, and lift up to 60 pounds.
Able to work at heights of 25 feet or higher.
