*Floral Plant Growers Job Description* *Job Title:* Maintenance Technician *Department:* Maintenance *Reports To:* Range Manager _or_ Facility Maintenance Manager *FLSA Status:* Non-Exempt *SUMMARY* Installs, maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems in a wholesale greenhouse environment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Prevention * Performs preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment such as generators, seeding equipment, soil equipment, transplant conveyors, mist tanks, watering booms, shipping equipment, air compressor, pumps, injectors and boilers on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis ensuring compliance with company maintenance policies.
* May coordinate with the Facilities Maintenance Manager to provide appropriate safety training to maintenance crewmembers, such as electrical safety, lockout/tag out, wiring schematics, circuitry, mechanical diagnostics and ladder logic.
* Maintains facilities grounds including mowing grass, shoveling snow, plowing driveways and parking areas.
* Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work area.
* On call for any facility maintenance related issues.
Installation & Repair * Installs, programs or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as transplanters, production lines and programmable controllers using ladder logic and troubleshooting skills.
* Inspects and tests machinery and equipment for excessive wear or defects.
Visually inspects and listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction.
Discusses machine operation variations with Facilities Maintenance Manager, Range Manager or Corporate Facilities Manager to diagnose problem or repair machine.
Consults with outside technical support, when necessary, to resolve problem.
* Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
* Oversees and instructs maintenance crew members on the installation and repair of electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment, such as environmental computer, ensuring compliance with company safety policies.
* Plans installation and maintenance of pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
* Plans, coordinates and participates in repairs and maintenance to the physical structure of facility, including replacing poly roof covering and greenhouse structural maintenance.
* Oversees set up and operation of machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, milling machine and welding equipment to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures and tools ensuring compliance with company safety policies.
*QUALIFICATIONS* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

*EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE* High school diploma or equivalent.
Four years of maintenance department experience with knowledge of electrical safety, machinery repair, deciphering blueprints, circuitry & wiring schematics, mechanical diagnostics and federal, state and local safety regulations.
*LANGUAGE SKILLS* Command of the English language.
Ability to communicate departmental requirements and needs to crewmembers.
Ability to inform and communicate with Facilities & Equipment Maintenance Manager.
*MATHEMATICAL SKILLS* High school level addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
*REASONING ABILITY* Ability to troubleshoot and apply ladder logic.
Ability to make decisions and determine when to consult with the Facilities & Equipment Maintenance Manager and/or outside technical support.
Ability to lead, instruct, train & motivate other maintenance crew members.
Follow safety rules and regulations and first aid practices.
Company issued certificates in the following training programs: Blood borne pathogens, Confined Spaces, Fire Extinguisher, Forklift, Lockout/Tag Out *PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT* The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to lift 75 pounds.
Ability to perform duties on a ladder at roof level heights and on the facility roof.
Ability to work on stationary equipment.
Facilities maintenance entails indoor and outdoor duties and requires the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and extreme heat created by the greenhouse environment.
Expect some evening and weekend work during peak seasons.
Some travel may be required.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $19.
50 - $23.
