Purchasing Specialist-Buyer

Job Summary The purchasing specialist/buyer position is responsible for the purchasing of materials and supplies for Adams Thermal Systems, manufacturing operations.
This includes processing requisitions, researching products, clarifying specifications, typing purchase orders, following up back orders, selecting vendors, and maintaining up-to-date product information files, all while striving to continually improve quality, delivery, and the total cost of products and services.
Responsibilities Participates with project management on supplier selection and initial sourcing.
Identifies, interviews, and contracts with suppliers to obtain information concerning the purchase of quality materials at a competitive price with an acceptable delivery schedule based on production and customer requirements.
Works in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Department, works with suppliers to achieve Quality System compliance and reach ATS certified status.
Negotiates contracts indicating Supplier Quality Agreement PPMs and component warranty requirements.
Leads cost reduction efforts by benchmarking alternative suppliers, compiling/updating the purchasing price index, and selecting suppliers capable of meeting our requirements.
Act as a liaison between suppliers and engineering.
Submits/obtains quotes for parts and assemblies from suppliers.
Continually evaluates and negotiates contract prices for purchased materials.
Strives to improve the quality and cost of ATS products by contracting with the supplier at a competitive ratio.
May be assigned special projects as required by the materials manager.
Maintains an up-to-date filing system on pricing and vendors to ensure immediate and accurate access to information.
Searches out alternate vendors or suppliers during periods of shortage or stockouts.
Requirements Accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience with automotive manufacturing environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with sales representatives and personnel by telephone, in person, or through email.
Experience with word, excel, and ERP applications preferred.
Experience dealing with suppliers on a local, national, and international basis.
Ability to assimilate information and make decisions under pressure in a detailed and organized manner.
Experience with supplier continuous improvement development and implementation programs.
