Position will focus on Athletic Field Maintenance and Larson Ice Center Facility Operations.
PLEASE NOTE: Work schedule will be as follows: November 1st - March 31st: Monday-Thursday 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm at Larson Ice Center April 1st - October 31st: Mon-Fri 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Athletic Field Maintenance General Statement of Duties Under the general supervision of the Park and Forestry Superintendent; and direct supervision of the Park Supervisor, the Park Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in care and maintenance of grounds, public property, and equipment for Parks, Athletic Facilities, Ice Arena, Golf Course, and/or Family Aquatic Center.
May be required to assign, direct and monitor work of temporary employees with constant attention to safety practices and procedures.
Work shifts will include evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ice Arena Monitor compressors and the temperature of the ice arena to ensure operational efficiency.
Sharpen ice or hockey skates for customer use and rent skates.
Operate Zamboni ice resurfacer.
Supervise Ice Arena, enforce policies during work shift.
Cleaning and custodial duties.
Parks, Pool, and Athletic Facilities Operation of many types of park and turf-related equipment to include backhoe, trucks, mowers, chemical sprayer and utility vehicles.
Use of various hand tools to include saws, drills, grinders, sanders, micrometers, calipers; etc.
Perform basic building construction/repair projects.
(framing, sheeting, siding, roofing) Repair to park features.
(fences, gates, walls, trails, etc.
) Painting/staining of fences, signs, shelters and buildings.
Turfgrass management of athletic fields and parks.
(softball, baseball, football, and soccer).
Maintain designated recreational and athletic field grounds to include any of the following duties: cut lawns; trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls; prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs; spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides; rake and bag or burn leaves, etc.
Operates and/or assists in mechanical operation of pool equipment and pool maintenance to include maintaining filters, pumps, chlorinators.
Balance and maintain water chemistry.
Clean grounds and remove litter.
Snow removal from sidewalks, trails and driveway utilizing equipment or manually as needed.
Herbicide, fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide application.
Operation and maintenance of turf irrigation systems.
Installation and minor repairs of irrigation systems.
Spread salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup in the parks, ice arena and golf course.
Site preparation, form, pour and finish small, new concrete installations.
Plants and waters lawn, grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
Minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on small equipment and facilities including plumbing, and electrical.
Check and replaces light bulbs indoors and outdoors.
Act as crew leader on jobs where less skilled workers are assisting.
May be required to assign, direct and monitor work of temporary employees with constant attention to safety practices and procedures.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities Attend training, seminars or workshops as deemed necessary.
Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.
Perform other such duties as deemed necessary.

College or technical education in a related field, experience in a similar position, general mechanical and landscaping experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Ability to use light maintenance equipment.
Ability to operate motor vehicle and travel to job sites or other work related activities.
Considerable ability to work alone and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others to include the public, contractors, co-workers, etc.
Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and have the ability to work occasional odd hours, holidays or weekends.
Must have ability to be tactful and handle questions or concerns appropriately.
Must be safety conscious.
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Certification, Testing and Examination Successful competition in written tests and/or oral interviews.
Ability to obtain/maintain South Dakota Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification.
Possession of a valid South Dakota Drivers License with acceptable driving record and ability to obtain CDL.
Ability to obtain Aquatic Facility Operator Certification.
Other such examination as deemed necessary by the City.
