Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Street Supervisor, this position is responsible for assisting in the upkeep and repair of streets and other public infrastructure within the City of Brookings.
This position operates during the peak seasons when maintenance demands are high, either on the asphalt or paint crew.
This is a seasonal position scheduled Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm (flexible schedule with advance notice), beginning in spring and concluding towards the end of the summer.
Minimum Qualifications
18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
Provide exceptional customer service to the public
Must be safety conscious
Must be a United States citizen.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in public works, road construction, grounds maintenance, painting, general laborer or a related field is preferred but not required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Major Duties
Asphalt Crew
Assist in repairing potholes, cracks, and other damages on roadways.
Shoveling and raking asphalt for the repair and maintenance of city streets
Operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in street maintenance activities, blowers, broom and small machinery.
Paint Crew
Assist in the installation and maintenance of road signs and markings.
Site preparation (scraping off old paint, clearing vegetation)
Performs general painting of curbs, walkways, and street markings using an airless paint sprayer.
Set up and remove work zone traffic control devices
Clean and maintain equipment, grounds and city infrastructure in the right of way.
Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding work progress, issues, and potential improvements.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in the Street Division.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
Works near moving parts and a wide variety of light to heavy equipment, including working near moving traffic.
