Responsibilities:
- Lay bricks and other types of masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, chimneys, and other structures
- Mix mortar and spread it onto bricks or blocks to secure them in place
- Use trowels and other hand tools to cut, shape, and smooth bricks or blocks
- Read blueprints or other specifications to determine the size, shape, and layout of masonry structures
- Install insulation materials in masonry walls
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment used in masonry work
Skills:
- Heavy equipment operation: Proficiency in operating heavy machinery such as forklifts or cranes for moving materials on construction sites
- Blueprint reading: Skill in interpreting architectural blueprints and construction plans to guide masonry work
